The Purpose of Vision

Vision provides clarity and direction. It turns dreams into actionable plans and ensures every step you take brings you closer to the life you desire. Personally, vision allows you to grow intentionally and focus on your values, gifts, and growing your skills. Professionally, it aligns your aspirations with your skills and opportunities, paving the way for new experiences, success and fulfillment — which expand your worldview.

Example of Vision

Personal Vision: “By the end of 2025, I will cultivate a healthy work-life balance by prioritizing wellness and quality time with my family while continuing to pursue self-growth.”

Professional Vision: “By 2025, I will advance into a leadership role, completing certifications and mentoring others to contribute to my organization’s growth and success.”

By articulating your vision you initiate the change you wish to see in your life, “writing the vision down making it ease to understand so that you can take action to achieve it” is a critical step towards your next. Vision is about direction, the next step is to put the vision into a plan by way of SMARTER Goals. SMARTER Goals allows you to express and see the end of each goal before you start it. Ultimately, “beginning with the end in mind” Habit 2 in Steven Covey’s book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.  The key principles are:

1.) Clarity of Purpose — Define what matters most to you, your personal and professional goals, values, and principles

2.) Visualization,  — Imagine your ideal outcomes, whether in relationships, career, or life. Covey suggest mentally “writing” your life’s script based on your core values.

3.) Personal Leadership — Leadership here means giving yourself with a mission or vision statement that serves as a compass for decisions and actions

4.) Alignment — Ensure that your daily activities reflect your long-term priorities and the legacy you want to create.

Habit 2 (https://www.franklincovey.com/the-7-habits/habit-2/) encourages you to act intentionally rather than reactively. By begin gin with the end in mind, you align your efforts with your deepest values and ultimate objectives, making success more attainable and meaningful. As Covey writes, “ All things are created twice. There is a mental or first creation, and a physical or second creation.” This habit ensures that the mental creation is purposeful and leads to the desired results.

The tool or framework used to define and articulate your goals is the SMARTER Goal Framework, these visions are clear, actionable, and meaningful, with built-in metrics for progress and accountability.
